Salvo Elixir is the richest and most unusual of the Salvo line. Released in 2022, it is an oriental fougère built on a combination most fragrances at this price would not attempt: black pepper and tobacco lifted by pineapple, a heart of coffee, patchouli and iris, and a base of amber, vanilla, benzoin and labdanum. Dense, spiced and resinous, it is made for cold weather and evenings.

A note on sourcing. This is the pyramid recorded on Fragrantica. Several retailers publish a different list for Salvo Elixir built on cinnamon, cardamom, grapefruit and Haitian vetiver, which happens to match the composition it is often compared to rather than this one. What it smells like

The opening is the surprise. Black pepper hits first with a dry, prickly heat, tobacco brings an immediate depth that most openings save for later, and pineapple cuts across both with a sharp tropical sweetness. Pineapple over tobacco sounds unlikely and works, giving the first few minutes a bright edge against a dark background.

The heart turns richer and stranger in a good way. Coffee brings a roasted bitterness, patchouli adds earthiness, and iris threads something cool and powdery through the middle that keeps the whole thing from becoming heavy. This is where Salvo Elixir separates itself from the simpler spiced fragrances it sits alongside.

The dry down is pure warmth. Amber and labdanum give a resinous glow, benzoin adds a balsamic sweetness, vanilla rounds the edges, and the woody notes hold it all together. It sits close to the skin and stays there for hours.

Amber, labdanum, benzoin and vanilla are all tenacious materials, so expect eight hours or more on skin with confident projection through the opening hours, and considerably longer on clothing.
