Description

Lattafa Ajayeb Dubai Portrait White 100ml Eau De Parfum

Ajayeb Dubai Portrait is the fragrance that quietly made a case for tropical fruit in Arabian perfumery. Most of what comes out of the Gulf leans on rose, oud, saffron and amber. This one opens with citrus and then puts ripe mango right in the middle of the composition, backed by jasmine and osmanthus and grounded in sandalwood and musk. The result is warm and golden rather than sharp, and it is one of the easiest Lattafa releases to wear in daylight.

Fragrance notes

Top notes: orange, lemon

Heart notes: jasmine, mango, osmanthus

Base notes: amber, sandalwood, musk, oud

These are the notes as published by Lattafa. Note that oud is the last of four base notes here, not the headline. Some listings describe this fragrance as having a signature oud base, which overstates it considerably. The centre of gravity is the mango and osmanthus accord in the heart, and the oud works as a dry woody anchor underneath rather than as the main event.

A note on the name

You will see this sold as both Ajayeb Dubai Portrait and Ajayeb Dubai Portrait White. They are the same fragrance. The word White is a colour descriptor added by retailers to distinguish the bottle, and both versions carry the same barcode. What is genuinely different is Ajayeb Dubai without the word Portrait, which is a separate Lattafa fragrance built on saffron, pineapple, coffee and butterscotch. If you are comparing listings elsewhere, that is the one to watch out for.

What it smells like

The opening is a clean citrus flash, orange and lemon together, bright but brief. It does not linger and it is not really the point. Within ten minutes the heart takes over and the character of the fragrance becomes clear.

Mango is the star and it is handled well. This is ripe, fleshy, slightly creamy mango rather than the sharp green mango note some tropical fragrances use, and it avoids smelling like a body lotion because osmanthus sits alongside it. Osmanthus is an interesting choice here: it naturally carries apricot and leather facets, so it deepens the fruit and gives it a suede like softness at the same time. Jasmine rounds the edges and adds a creamy floral lift without turning the whole thing into a white floral.

As it settles, sandalwood and musk take the fruit down into something smoother and more skin like. Amber adds warmth and a faint sweetness, and the oud contributes a dry, slightly resinous woodiness at the very bottom. By the third or fourth hour it smells like warm fruit over soft woods, and that is a very pleasant place for a fragrance to end up.

Longevity, projection and when to wear it

Expect solid performance from a Lattafa eau de parfum at this strength. The opening projects well for the first hour or two, then it moves closer to the skin and stays there for most of a working day. The mango accord is the part that carries furthest, so this is a fragrance people tend to notice on you rather than one you keep noticing on yourself.

It suits spring and summer particularly well, and it holds up in warm weather better than most amber heavy Arabian releases because the citrus and fruit keep it lifted. It works for daytime, for the office, for holidays and for casual evenings. It is not a formal evening fragrance and it does not try to be.

Who will love it

Lattafa designates this as unisex and that is accurate. The fruit reads slightly sweet and the woods read slightly dry, and neither side dominates. It is a good choice if you find traditional oud fragrances too heavy or too medicinal but still want something with Arabian character, and an equally good choice if you already like tropical fruity scents and want one with more depth than a typical summer release.

It is also an easy fragrance to buy for someone else, because very little about it is polarising.

About Lattafa

Lattafa Perfumes is a Sharjah based house in the United Arab Emirates and one of the most widely distributed Arabian fragrance brands in the world. It built its reputation on generously dosed eau de parfum concentrations at prices that would be impossible in the designer market, and on a release schedule fast enough that new fragrances arrive several times a year. Ajayeb Dubai Portrait launched in 2023 and has stayed in the range since, which for a house that moves this quickly is a reasonable indicator that people keep buying it.

How to get the best from it

Three to four sprays is a sensible starting point. Apply to the neck, chest and the inside of the wrists, and do not rub the wrists together, as that shortens the citrus opening. Because mango and osmanthus sit in the heart rather than the top, this fragrance rewards a little patience: give it fifteen minutes on skin before you judge it. A spray on a shirt collar will extend the trail without making it heavier. Store the bottle somewhere cool and dark and away from bathroom steam.

Longevity varies by fragrance and skin type. You can see our guidance for this scent in the Fragrance Profile above — richer amber, oud and gourmand scents generally last longest, while fresh and citrus styles are lighter.
