Inspired By

Bujairami’s own listing states that Mafia Boss is inspired by Clive Christian Blonde Amber. That is the manufacturer’s stated reference, published on their own site.

The full name of the original is Clive Christian Noble Collection XXI Art Deco Blonde Amber, launched in 2022. It is a parfum at 25% concentration, not an eau de parfum, and Clive Christian do not make a 100ml: it is sold in 50ml at £490 at Selfridges. That works out at roughly £980 for 100ml. Mafia Boss is £37.99 for 100ml, which makes this the widest price gap of anything in the Bujairami range.

What the original is built from. Clive Christian publish only three notes on their own site — bitter orange, blonde tobacco and tonka — which tells you very little. The full published pyramid is far richer: rum, olibanum, bitter orange, cardamom, pink pepper, ginger, bergamot and grapefruit on top; dried fruits, white tobacco, sandalwood, saffron, tuberose, osmanthus, jasmine and orris in the heart; tonka bean, vanilla, myrrh, labdanum, patchouli, cedar, musk and vetiver underneath. Boozy rum and dried fruit over sweet tobacco is the signature.

Be realistic about what £37.99 can do here. This is the one comparison in the range where we would caution you most. A 25% parfum built on twenty-plus materials, several of them expensive naturals, cannot be reproduced at a twenty-sixth of the price. Mafia Boss captures the shape — the rum, the dried fruit, the sweet tobacco warmth — but with fewer layers and less of the complexity that develops over hours in the original. If you want to know whether you like this style, it is an excellent and inexpensive way to find out. If you already own the Clive Christian, this will not replace it.

The opening is a spiced citrus-rum flourish that quickly turns rich: tobacco and saffron take charge, softened by osmanthus and orris. The base is dense and resinous, with myrrh and labdanum giving it an almost liturgical depth.

Performance

At extrait strength, this class of oriental will happily last from evening to next morning, projecting seriously for the first hours. One for winter nights, two sprays maximum. As with any fragrance, exact performance varies with skin type and weather.
