Elysia is Fragrance World’s gourmand line, and the most consistent thing the house makes. Nine fragrances, all 100ml eau de parfum, built around vanilla, sugar and fruit rather than oud and spice. If most Arabian perfumery feels too heavy or too serious, this is the range to start with.
The vanillas. Elysia Vanilla is the one people come looking for and the best starting point: vanilla orchid and jasmine over brown sugar, tonka, amber and patchouli, warm and grown up rather than sugary. Elysia Vanilla Sugar takes the same idea considerably sweeter, into candied marshmallow and caramel territory.
The desserts. Marshmallow is soft and powdery, Pista Sundae is the pistachio ice cream one, and Sweet Banana is exactly what the name promises. These are the sweetest in the line and they make no apology for it.
The fruity ones. Apple Rouge is crisp red apple with warmth underneath, and Lychee Fizz is the brightest of the whole range, lychee and blackcurrant over a creamy vanilla base. Both suit warm weather better than the dessert gourmands do.
The grown-up two. Sugar Patchouli is the darkest, pairing the sweetness with earthy patchouli, and Elegance is the outlier: a proper floral built on magnolia, white peony and centifolia rose, and the least sweet thing here.
Try before you commit. Two 2ml samples are available, for Elysia Vanilla and Vanilla Sugar. Given how much the line varies between soft and very sweet, testing on your own skin first is sensible.
Gift sets. Three pairings are available boxed: Vanilla and Marshmallow, Apple Rouge and Sweet Banana, and Elegance and Vanilla.
Which should you buy first? Elysia Vanilla if you want the signature. Lychee Fizz if you want something light. Sugar Patchouli if sweet fragrances usually feel too young on you. Elegance if you do not want a gourmand at all.
