It takes the suede and saffron idea that niche perfumery has built a decade on, and puts it over a bright citrus and lavender opening with a green mossy base. Fresh at the top, leathery through the middle, dry and earthy at the end.

The opening is sharp and complex. Bergamot and grapefruit arrive together with a bitter citrus bite, lavender adds a cool herbal edge, sage threads a dry green bitterness through it, and saffron sits underneath with its bittersweet warmth. Five notes in the top is a lot and they do not fight.

Fragrance Profile

The heart is the interesting part. Suede gives a soft, dry, powdery leather that is nothing like a raw animalic one, pineapple adds a tart tropical lift over the top, and geranium brings a green rosy sharpness. There is also a balsamic fir quality that some published note lists include and others omit. Pineapple over suede is the signature of this whole style and it is well judged here.

The base is dry and green rather than warm. Oakmoss gives an earthy bitterness, vetiver adds rooty depth, cedarwood brings clean woodiness, and patchouli and musk round it out. It stays close to the skin and reads mineral and outdoorsy.

Al Qubah is often compared to Tom Ford Ombre Leather and Tom Ford Tuscan Leather based on community feedback, and the comparison sits in the shared territory of dry suede over fruit and green woods rather than in matching note lists. One reviewer describes it memorably as an Ombre Leather Sport, which captures the fresher, lighter character well.

Opinion on these is genuinely split, and it is worth being honest about that. At least one wearer says the Tuscan Leather comparison does not hold at all, and others reach instead for Soleil de Jeddah or Imperial Valley. Treat the direction as reliable and the specific target as contested.

One claim to ignore: Al Qubah circulates in some places as a Baccarat Rouge 540 interpretation. We have looked for support for that and found effectively none, and the one wearer who raises it does so only to reject it. If BR540 is what you are after, this is not the bottle.
