Jazzab Elixir by Ard Al Zaafaran is a recent addition to the Jazzab family, and it is the hardest fragrance in the house’s catalogue to describe accurately. We have looked into it properly, and the honest answer is that the published information about it is a mess.

Why we are not printing a note list

Jazzab Elixir does not appear on Ard Al Zaafaran’s own storefront, and it is not listed on the main independent fragrance databases. That leaves retailer descriptions as the only source, and they fall into two camps that describe completely different fragrances.

One group of retailers lists it as a gourmand, built on almond, hazelnut, milk and mandarin over vanilla, tonka and jasmine, finishing on caramel, amber and musk.

Another group lists it as a rose oud, built on pink pepper, peach, rose and bergamot over oud, jasmine and saffron, finishing on vanilla, benzoin, leather and patchouli.

Those are not two readings of one fragrance. They are two different fragrances. The second list appears word for word on several sites, which points to one shared wholesale description rather than three independent confirmations, and one of those same retailers contradicts itself by tagging the product as a vanilla gourmand while publishing the rose oud list.

We would rather tell you this than pick the more appealing pyramid and present it as fact. The same uncertainty applies to who it is marketed to: we have seen it listed as unisex, as a men’s fragrance and as a women’s fragrance by different sellers.

Where it sits in the Jazzab line

Worth knowing, because the line is smaller than it looks. There is no plain Jazzab: the range is Jazzab Gold and Jazzab Silver.

Gold is the feminine one, a fruity floral on apple, peach, plum and pineapple over rose and jasmine, landing on vanilla, tonka, cedar and patchouli. Silver is the masculine one, a fresh aquatic built on lemon and sage over incense and freesia with a cedar and musk base.

Elixir is newer than both and has not been positioned against them by the brand, so we cannot tell you with any confidence whether it is a flanker of Gold, of Silver, or a standalone. Anyone telling you otherwise is guessing.

Two UK retailers tag Jazzab Elixir as inspired by Fugazzi Vanilla Haze. That is a retailer claim rather than anything Ard Al Zaafaran has said, and we pass it on as exactly that. It does at least support the gourmand reading of the fragrance over the rose oud one, for what that is worth.
