Description

Asad Bourbon by Lattafa 100ml Eau De Parfum

Asad Bourbon is the sweet one in the Asad line and the most approachable. Lavender, mirabelle plum and pink pepper open it, cacao, nutmeg and davana fill the heart, and it settles into bourbon vanilla, amber and vetiver. Warm, boozy and gourmand without tipping into dessert, and one of the better value bottles Lattafa has released.

Asad Bourbon fragrance notes

  • Top: Lavender, mirabelle, pink pepper
  • Heart: Cacao, nutmeg, davana
  • Base: Bourbon vanilla, amber, vetiver

What does Asad Bourbon smell like?

The opening is aromatic and spiced rather than sweet. Lavender leads with a clean herbal edge, pink pepper adds a dry prickle, and mirabelle plum brings a soft golden fruitiness. Mirabelle is an unusual choice at this price and it is what stops the first impression being generic.

The heart is what people buy it for. Cacao arrives dry and dark rather than milky, nutmeg adds spiced warmth, and davana threads a boozy, slightly fermented apricot quality through both. Wearers consistently report the cacao dominating, and describe it as one of the more masculine cocoa fragrances at any price.

The dry down is warm and smooth. Bourbon vanilla gives a rounded sweetness with a faint whisky-barrel character, amber adds a glow, and vetiver brings an earthy green dryness that stops the whole thing becoming sickly. That vetiver is the reason Asad Bourbon reads grown up rather than like a dessert.

Two unusual ingredients worth knowing about

Davana is an oil from an Indian herb, and it is one of the few materials in perfumery that genuinely shifts with skin chemistry. On some people it reads boozy and apricot-like, on others closer to rum-soaked fruit. It is why two people can wear this and describe it differently, and it is worth testing on your own skin rather than relying on someone else’s review.

Mirabelle plum is a small golden plum, softer and less tart than the dark plum note used in most fragrances. Along with davana it is the kind of material usually reserved for considerably more expensive perfumery.

Asad Bourbon longevity and projection

Strong, and consistently reported. Expect eight to ten hours on skin and longer on clothing, with clear projection at around arm’s length for the first two to three hours before it settles into a close warm trail. Two or three sprays are plenty.

One thing that catches people out: a fresh bottle underperforms. Multiple owners describe mediocre performance out of the box that transformed after two to three weeks of settling. If yours seems weak, put it away and come back to it rather than assuming you have a bad bottle.

Is Asad Bourbon a summer fragrance?

Not really, and it is better to be straight about that. The cacao, bourbon vanilla and amber all amplify in heat, and the composition leans firmly towards cool weather. Autumn and winter suit it best, and it works well for evenings and colder daytime wear.

If you want it in summer, one spray after dark rather than three in the afternoon. For a genuinely warm-weather Asad, Asad Zanzibar is the fresher option.

Asad Bourbon inspired by

Two comparisons circulate and neither is official. Some wearers place it near Initio Side Effect, others near Azzaro The Most Wanted Parfum, and both share the boozy sweet warmth that defines it. Treat these as community observations rather than claims of equivalence. Perfumeo is not affiliated with or endorsed by Initio or Azzaro, and all brand names remain the property of their respective owners.

Asad Bourbon vs Liquid Brun

A question we get often, since both are warm sweet gourmands at a similar price. Liquid Brun is built on cinnamon, bourbon vanilla and praline over guaiac wood, so it reads spicier and more caramelised. Asad Bourbon leads with cacao and davana over vetiver, so it reads drier, darker and slightly boozy.

Choose Liquid Brun if you want warm spice and sweetness. Choose Asad Bourbon if you want chocolate and booze with an earthy finish. They sit close enough that most people are happy with one.

The Asad line compared

Four releases, four directions. The original Asad is the spicy-sweet benchmark that built the line. Asad Zanzibar is the fresh, warm-weather one. Asad Elixir is the darkest and most grown up, built on tobacco, cedarwood and patchouli. Asad Bourbon is the sweetest and the most office-friendly of the four.

Want to try them side by side? The Asad Set of 4 gives you all of them in 25ml, or the 2ml sample is the cheapest way to test this one first.

The bottle and box

Matte black glass with gold detailing, and one of the better looking bottles Lattafa produces. It has real weight to it and presents well as a gift without extra wrapping.

Being honest about it: the cap is plastic rather than metal, and the gold trim can mark with heavy handling. It looks considerably more expensive than it is from a distance, slightly less so up close. Most owners stop noticing within a week.

How to tell a real Asad Bourbon from a fake

Worth covering, because counterfeit Lattafa has become a genuine problem and Asad Bourbon is among the most copied releases in the range.

The clearest tell is the opening. A genuine bottle gives a distinct spicy lavender from the first spray, even on a fresh batch. Fakes tend to open on raw alcohol or a flat synthetic sweetness with no structure.

The second tell is performance. Counterfeits typically collapse within three to five hours and project weakly throughout. Genuine Asad Bourbon holds eight to ten hours once settled. Also check the batch code is etched on the bottle and matches the box, and that the juice is not noticeably thin or pale.

Most problems come from marketplace resellers rather than from stockists holding their own inventory. Every bottle we sell is genuine, sealed and batch-coded, sourced through authorised distributors and shipped from our own UK warehouse.

Who is it for?

Lattafa markets Asad Bourbon to men and it reads that way, though nothing in cacao and vanilla is genuinely gendered and plenty of women wear it. It suits anyone who likes warm sweet fragrances with enough dryness to stay wearable, and it is one of the safer gourmands for an office in winter.

It will not suit you if you dislike sweetness or if chocolate notes have not worked for you before.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does Asad Bourbon smell like? Aromatic lavender, mirabelle plum and pink pepper opening into dry cacao, nutmeg and boozy davana, then settling on bourbon vanilla, amber and vetiver. Warm, sweet and slightly boozy with an earthy finish.

How long does Asad Bourbon last? Eight to ten hours on skin and longer on clothing, with clear projection for the first two to three hours. A fresh bottle often improves after two to three weeks of settling.

Is Asad Bourbon a summer fragrance? Not really. The cacao, vanilla and amber amplify in heat. Autumn and winter suit it best, and Asad Zanzibar is the better warm-weather choice from the line.

Is Asad Bourbon too sweet? It is sweet, but the vetiver and pink pepper keep it dry enough to stay wearable. It is a gourmand rather than a dessert fragrance.

What is Asad Bourbon a dupe of? Nothing officially. Community comparisons point to Initio Side Effect and Azzaro The Most Wanted Parfum, both sharing its boozy sweet warmth, but Lattafa makes no such claim.

How do I know my bottle is real? A genuine bottle opens on spicy lavender rather than raw alcohol, lasts eight hours or more once settled, and carries a batch code etched on the glass that matches the box. Fakes fade within three to five hours.

Is Asad Bourbon good for daily wear? Yes in cooler months, and it is one of the more office-friendly gourmands at this price. Keep to two sprays in shared spaces.

Is it only for men? It is marketed to men and leans masculine, but cacao and vanilla are not gendered notes and it is worn by everyone.

Longevity varies by fragrance and skin type. You can see our guidance for this scent in the Fragrance Profile above — richer amber, oud and gourmand scents generally last longest, while fresh and citrus styles are lighter.
