Say “Badee Al Oud” to anyone who knows Lattafa and they will picture smoky agarwood, roses, something dark and serious. Amethyst Fusion is not that, and you should know it before you buy.
This is a gourmand. A properly indulgent one.
It opens on amaretto and rum, and the boozy accord is convincing rather than cartoonish. There is a genuine warmth to it, almond-sweet and slightly heady, with mandarin cutting across the top to keep the whole thing from feeling syrupy in the first five minutes. It smells like the good part of a dessert menu.
The heart deepens into caramel and amber, golden and smooth, and this is where the fragrance settles into its real character. Patchouli sits underneath doing quiet, essential work, adding an earthy edge that stops the sweetness from becoming flat. Without it this would be a pleasant caramel scent. With it, it has some grip.
The base is creamy and warm. Sandalwood brings a velvety woodiness, vanilla rounds out the sugar, and benzoin adds a soft resinous depth that lingers close to the skin. The dry-down is the part people come back for. It is comforting without being childish, which is a harder line to walk than the note list suggests.
On skin it runs sweet and boozy for the first couple of hours with strong sillage, then draws in and holds a warm, creamy, skin-close finish for the rest of the day. Six to eight hours is realistic, longer on a jumper.
Fully unisex. It belongs to autumn and winter, and it is at its best in the evening, where the booze and caramel have room to breathe. In summer heat it would be too much, and it would know it.
Buy it if you want a gourmand with some backbone. Just do not buy it expecting oud.

The two share a name, an amber warmth and a vanilla base. That is genuinely where the similarity ends. The original is a rose-and-oud fragrance. Fusion is a boozy caramel gourmand with no oud in the pyramid at all.
If you loved the original for its roses and smoke, sample this before committing. If the original was too sharp or too traditional for you, Fusion is very likely the one you actually wanted.
