Café Noir by Brandy Prestige: Blackcurrant, Rose and Chestnut
The name sets an expectation the fragrance does not meet, so worth being straight about it. Café Noir contains no coffee note. What it actually delivers is a dark fruity gourmand, and once you stop looking for the coffee it is one of the more interesting things in the Prestige line.
Blackcurrant leads, tart and slightly green, with bergamot brightening it and cardamom adding dry spice. The heart turns unexpectedly soft: rose gives it a floral centre, heliotrope brings an almond-powdery quality, and cashmere wood smooths the join.
The base is where the gourmand arrives. Chestnut is the unusual choice, nutty and faintly sweet rather than sugary, with vanilla rounding it and ambergris adding a warm mineral depth. Dark rather than dessert-like.

How it wears
Extrait concentration, and the blackcurrant opening lasts longer than fruit notes usually manage because of it. The rose and heliotrope heart carries the middle of the wear, and the chestnut and ambergris base sits close for the rest of the day.
Autumn suits it best. There is enough fruit to keep it from feeling heavy and enough warmth in the base to make sense in cold air.
Who it suits
Anyone who wants a gourmand that is not built on vanilla and caramel. Chestnut and blackcurrant are unusual pairings and the result smells distinctive rather than familiar.
Also a good option if you like rose but find rose fragrances too traditional. Here it sits in the middle of something modern rather than leading the composition.
