Description

French Avenue Safari Breeze 100ml

Safari Breeze is grapefruit, blackcurrant and coconut over spearmint and jasmine, finishing on vetiver, amber and oakmoss. Green and bitter up top, creamy through the middle, dry and mossy underneath. It reads fresh without being a generic blue fragrance, and the vetiver and oakmoss base is what gives it somewhere to go.

What Wearers Compare It To

French Avenue make no comparison. They never name another perfume on their own store, so what follows is wearer consensus rather than a brand claim.

What wearers actually say. The clear leader, named by around nine reviewers, is Tales from Zanzibar by Memoirs of a Perfume Collector. That is a far more obscure target than most dupes chase: an independent extrait that Les Senteurs in London list at £195 for 75ml, and which is frequently out of stock. Safari Breeze is £27.99.

Everything else is scattered and much weaker. Vulcan Feu gets about five mentions and one reviewer flatly says it smells nothing like it. Louis Vuitton Symphony, Louis Vuitton Pacific Chill and Baccarat Rouge 540 get around three each, which across three completely different styles tells you more about how divided opinion is than about what Safari Breeze smells like.

Safari Breeze or Safari Squeeze? We Sell Both, and They Are Not Equally Close

Worth knowing before you choose, because the names are nearly identical and both chase the same original. Bujairami Safari Squeeze is also compared to Tales from Zanzibar, and it is the closer of the two by a wide margin.

We checked both against the original’s note list, published by Les Senteurs as lime, red mandarin, pink pepper and mint over coconut, guava and cassis, on musk, candied fruits, ambergris, transparent oud and moss.

  • Safari Squeeze matches all twelve notes. It is a near-complete reproduction of the list.
  • Safari Breeze shares four or five. Coconut, mint as spearmint, cassis as blackcurrant, and moss as oakmoss. But it swaps the lime and mandarin for grapefruit, adds jasmine and vetiver, and drops the guava, candied fruits, ambergris and oud entirely.

So they are genuinely different buys. If you want the closest thing to Tales from Zanzibar, buy Safari Squeeze. If you want something greener, drier and more wearable to an office, with the tropical fruit dialled right down, buy Safari Breeze. The second is less faithful and, for a lot of people, more useful.

Any comparison above refers to scent profile only. Safari Breeze is French Avenue’s own composition, in its own bottle and its own packaging. Perfumeo is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to Memoirs of a Perfume Collector in any way, and all brand names remain the property of their respective owners.

Fragrance Profile

Top: Grapefruit, Blackcurrant, Coconut.
Heart: Spearmint, Jasmine.
Base: Vetiver, Amber, Oakmoss.

Note list verified in house against independent listings. French Avenue do not publish a pyramid for this one on their own store, so there is no brand-side list to cross-check it against, and we would rather tell you that than imply wider corroboration.

A correction to what this page used to say, and to a lot of listings elsewhere: Safari Breeze is not an aquatic. There is no marine or ozonic note anywhere in it. The freshness comes from grapefruit, spearmint and vetiver, which is a green and bitter kind of fresh rather than a watery one. If you are specifically after a blue aquatic, this is not it.

Blackcurrant is the same material as cassis, and it is tart and slightly sharp rather than sweet, which keeps the grapefruit from reading like juice. Oakmoss and vetiver together are the interesting part: both are dry, earthy and bitter, and they are what stop the coconut turning into suncream.

Performance

Better than most fresh fragrances, and the vetiver and oakmoss base is why. Expect clear projection for the first two to three hours, then a dry mossy drydown holding six to eight hours on skin and longer on clothing. Two sprays. Green-fresh compositions usually fade fast, and two things stop this one doing that: a base worth the name, and the extrait concentration behind it. Fresh fragrances at extrait strength are genuinely uncommon, and it is the main reason to pick this over a cheaper aquatic.

When to Wear It

Spring and summer, daytime, warm weather, and offices. It works year-round but it is at its best in heat, where the grapefruit and spearmint lift. It is not an evening statement fragrance.

Who It’s For

Anyone who wants fresh without smelling like every other fresh fragrance, and anyone who has tried the mainstream aquatics and found them boring. The dry mossy base makes it considerably more interesting than its price suggests. Fully unisex.

Who should skip it. If you want the faithful Tales from Zanzibar interpretation, buy Safari Squeeze instead. If you dislike bitter or earthy notes, the vetiver and oakmoss will not suit you.

Why You’ll Love It

  • Named by around nine reviewers against a £195 independent extrait that is hard to buy at all
  • Grapefruit and spearmint freshness with a dry vetiver and oakmoss base, not a generic aquatic
  • Genuinely office-safe and warm-weather friendly
  • £27.99, down from £37.99
  • Sealed, batch-coded, and shipped free and tracked from our UK warehouse

Frequently Asked Questions

What is French Avenue Safari Breeze a dupe of?
Wearers most often name Tales from Zanzibar by Memoirs of a Perfume Collector, around nine of them. French Avenue make no comparison themselves. Be aware it is a loose interpretation rather than a close one.

Is Safari Breeze the same as Bujairami Safari Squeeze?
No, though both are compared to the same original. Safari Squeeze matches all twelve of the original’s notes. Safari Breeze shares four or five and goes greener and drier. Different fragrances, similar ambition.

Is it an aquatic?
No. There is no marine or ozonic note in it. The freshness is grapefruit, spearmint and vetiver, which is green and bitter rather than watery.

Does it smell of coconut?
There is coconut in the opening, but the oakmoss and vetiver keep it dry. It is nothing like a suncream or beach fragrance.

Is it office safe?
Yes, and it is one of the better options in this range for that. Two sprays and it stays polite.

How long does it last?
Six to eight hours on skin, longer on clothing, which is unusually good for a fresh composition.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are your fragrances 100% genuine?
Yes. Every fragrance we sell is authentic, brand-new and factory-sealed, sourced from authorised suppliers. We never sell testers, refills or imitations — each bottle is batch-coded so you can verify it.
How fast is delivery?
We offer free tracked UK delivery on every order. Orders placed before 2pm on a working day are dispatched the same day, and typically arrive within 2–3 working days.
How long will the scent last?
Longevity varies by fragrance and skin type. You can see our guidance for this scent in the Fragrance Profile above — richer amber, oud and gourmand scents generally last longest, while fresh and citrus styles are lighter.
How should I store my perfume?
Keep it away from direct sunlight, heat and humidity — a cool, dark drawer or cupboard is ideal. Stored well, a sealed fragrance keeps its quality for years.
