Ambre Leather by Brandy: Cardamom, Leather and Moss
Ambre Leather is the most restrained composition in the standard range, six notes doing a single job. Cardamom opens it, dry and aromatic rather than sweet, which sets the tone for everything that follows.
Leather takes the heart with jasmine sambac alongside it, and that floral note is what makes this work. Leather on its own can read harsh or plasticky at this price, and the jasmine softens it into something suppler and more expensive-smelling.
Amber, moss and patchouli close it out. The moss is the unusual choice, giving the dry-down a green earthiness that keeps the amber from turning syrupy. It finishes dry rather than sweet, which is the whole appeal.

Leather, moss and patchouli are all long-lasting, so this holds through a full day comfortably. It sits closer to the skin than the louder fragrances in the range, which suits its character.

Anyone who wants a leather fragrance that is not aggressive. This is the smooth end of the category rather than the smoky or animalic end.
