Description
Oud of Dubai is the sweet, golden half of La Beauté Paris’s Privé Collection, and the bottle we expect to sell faster of the two. Where its sibling Oud of London goes smoky, this one goes warm: saffron and rose over oud, melting into tonka bean and brown sugar. It is the classic rose-oud structure built for compliments rather than ceremony, and it arrives in the same patterned glass and heavy black box that make the Privé line look twice its price.

How it wears
Bergamot gives the opening a brief citrus lift, but saffron takes over within minutes, warm and leathery with that faintly metallic edge that signals proper Arabian perfumery. It is a confident start without being harsh.
Then the rose arrives, and it is the fragrance’s centre of gravity. Bulgarian rose here is lush and slightly jammy rather than fresh or soapy, and the oud underneath is smooth and resinous, more polished wood than barnyard. The pairing is the oldest in the Middle Eastern playbook, and the house handles it with a light touch: neither note bullies the other.
The base is where Oud of Dubai turns into something people ask about. Tonka bean and brown sugar bring a creamy, caramel-edged sweetness, amber adds glow, and white musk softens the finish so it sits close and warm on the skin for hours rather than shouting. By the evening it reads as a gourmand oud, sweet and cosy, with the rose still faintly present underneath.
Inspired by Montale Arabians Tonka
Oud of Dubai follows the structure of Arabians Tonka by Montale closely enough that we are happy to say so openly. Fragrantica lists nine notes for the Montale: saffron, bergamot, oud, Bulgarian rose, tonka bean, sugar cane, amber, white musk and oakmoss. Oud of Dubai’s published pyramid reproduces eight of them, with only the oakmoss missing, which suggests a slightly cleaner, less earthy dry down than the original. We have not tested them side by side, so treat this as a note-by-note comparison rather than a wear test. What the shared pyramid tells you is that if you love the sweet saffron-rose-oud-tonka idea and would rather not pay niche prices for it, this is a serious candidate. Oud of Dubai or Oud of London?
Dubai is the sweet, rosy one and the easier first buy. Oud of London is darker, opening on incense and smoke and finishing on patchouli and vanilla. Choose Dubai for dates, gifts and anyone who finds smoky oud intimidating. Choose London when you want the room to know an oud has arrived.
Who it suits and when to wear it
Fully unisex, and genuinely so. The rose and sugar pull it towards feminine on paper, but saffron and oud give it enough backbone that men wear it comfortably, particularly in cold weather. It belongs to autumn and winter evenings, date nights and special occasions. Two or three sprays are plenty; the tonka base is dense and rewards restraint. In summer heat the sweetness can turn heavy, so keep it for when the temperature drops.
