Inspired By

Bujairami’s own product listing states that Ocean Eyes is inspired by Louis Vuitton California Dream. That is the manufacturer’s stated reference, published on their own site, rather than our interpretation of the scent.

California Dream was composed by Jacques Cavallier-Belletrud and launched in 2020. Louis Vuitton lists it at $265 for 100ml on its own store. Ocean Eyes is £37.99.

One clarification worth making, because the error is repeated across a lot of listings online: Bujairami describes the reference as “California Dream Extrait”. Louis Vuitton has only ever released California Dream as an Eau de Parfum. There is no Extrait version of it. The “Extrait de Parfum” on our bottle refers to Bujairami’s own concentration, which is genuinely higher than an eau de parfum, and not to a version of the Louis Vuitton fragrance.

How the two differ, honestly. California Dream runs a soft floral heart between the fruit and the musk. Ocean Eyes largely skips it, moving more directly from mandarin and pear into ambrette and musk. The result is simpler, sweeter and closer to the skin. The Louis Vuitton has more lift, more air around it and a cleaner citrus sparkle that lasts further into the wear. Ocean Eyes goes cosy sooner.
