Ottoman Royale by Brandy: Praline, Rose and Oud
Ottoman Royale does something unusual with agarwood. Rather than pairing it with saffron and leather in the traditional Arabian way, it sets oud against praline and rose, which pulls the whole composition toward the gourmand end without losing the wood underneath.
Praline gives it a nutty sweetness, rose adds a classic floral warmth, and vanilla rounds the edges. Guaiac wood brings smoke, and copahu balm, an unusual resinous note from South America, adds a balsamic depth that most affordable ouds do not attempt.
The effect is closer to a dessert with wood in it than to a traditional oud, which makes it considerably more approachable than the category usually is.
