How we checked this. Every note list below comes from each fragrance’s own published pyramid, not from retail listings, because retailers often copy the wrong pyramid. Comparisons to designer fragrances are what wearers report in reviews, not claims Lattafa makes, and they are labelled that way. Where a version or a credit is uncertain, we say so.
The short answer
There are four Asads, and each is a separate composition rather than a stronger or lighter version of the original.
- Asad is the original: spicy, smoky and dark, with pepper, tobacco and coffee. Start here.
- Asad Zanzibar is the fresh, salty one: lavender, coconut water, iris and vanilla.
- Asad Bourbon is the sweet, warm one: lavender, cacao and bourbon vanilla.
- Asad Elixir is the deepest: saffron, tobacco, frankincense and amber.
The four side by side
| Fragrance | Released | Character | Key notes | Most often compared to |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Asad | 2021 | Spicy, smoky, dark | Black pepper, tobacco, pineapple, coffee, vanilla | Dior Sauvage Elixir |
| Asad Zanzibar | 2024 | Fresh, salty, powdery | Lavender, coconut water, iris, salt, vanilla | Jean Paul Gaultier Le Male Le Parfum |
| Asad Bourbon | 2025 | Sweet, warm, cacao | Lavender, mirabelle, cacao, bourbon vanilla | Azzaro The Most Wanted (version varies) |
| Asad Elixir | 2025 | Deep, resinous, tobacco | Saffron, tobacco, vanilla, frankincense, amber | Hugo Boss Boss Bottled Absolu |
Asad: the original
Published notes: black pepper, tobacco and pineapple, over patchouli, coffee and iris, on vanilla, amber, dry woods, benzoin and labdanum.
Asad opens with a hot hit of black pepper, softened by a flash of pineapple, then turns darker and smokier as the tobacco and coffee come through. The base is warm amber and vanilla with a resinous edge. It is bold and it is built for cooler weather and evenings.
Asad is widely compared to Dior Sauvage Elixir, based on community feedback, and it is one of the most consistent comparisons in Arabian perfumery. Note the version: wearers mean Sauvage Elixir, not Sauvage Eau de Toilette. We cover that comparison in full in Asad vs Sauvage Elixir.
Buy it if you want the line’s signature: spicy, dark and noticeable.
Asad Zanzibar: the fresh one
Published notes: lavender and black pepper, over coconut water, iris and salt, on vanilla and incense. The perfumer is credited as Fanny Bal.
Zanzibar is the Asad for people who find the original too heavy. Lavender and pepper keep a link to the family, but the heart turns salty and watery with coconut water and sea salt, and the iris gives it a soft, slightly powdery finish over vanilla.
Asad Zanzibar is widely compared to Jean Paul Gaultier Le Male Le Parfum, based on community feedback, and some wearers also mention Le Beau for the coconut. Note the version: the comparison is to Le Male Le Parfum, not the original Le Male. It rests on fewer reviews than the original Asad’s comparison, so treat it as a lean rather than a verdict.
We also stock the Asad Zanzibar Limited Edition. It is listed as a separate 2025 release, so do not assume it smells identical to the standard bottle.
Buy it if you want an Asad for warmer days, the office or daytime wear.
Asad Bourbon: the sweet one
Published notes: lavender, mirabelle plum and pink pepper, over cacao, nutmeg and davana, on bourbon vanilla, amber and vetiver. The perfumer is named as Jean-Louis Sieuzac; we have not seen that credit confirmed elsewhere.
Bourbon is the warmest and sweetest of the four. The lavender and plum opening leads into a cacao and spice heart, and the bourbon vanilla base makes it feel like a dressed-up gourmand rather than a smoky one.
Asad Bourbon is widely compared to Azzaro The Most Wanted, based on community feedback. Wearers mix up which version they mean, so we cannot say whether the closer match is the Intense or the Parfum. Some also mention Giorgio Armani Stronger With You Intensely.
Buy it if you like sweet, warm fragrances for dates and nights out.
Asad Elixir: the deepest one
Published notes: pink pepper, saffron and grapefruit, over tobacco, vanilla and cedar, on light amber, frankincense, patchouli and cashmeran.
Elixir is described as a deeper, more concentrated evolution of the original, and the pyramid supports that. Saffron and frankincense add a resinous, slightly smoky richness that the original does not have, while tobacco and vanilla keep the family thread.
Asad Elixir is widely compared to Hugo Boss Boss Bottled Absolu, based on community feedback. Note the version: wearers mean Bottled Absolu, not Bottled Elixir. Because it grows out of the original Asad, some also hear Sauvage Elixir in it.
Buy it if you already like Asad and want a richer, more resinous version for winter.
Which Asad should you buy?
- Your first Asad: the original.
- For summer, daytime or the office: Asad Zanzibar.
- For a sweeter, date-night scent: Asad Bourbon.
- For the richest winter wear: Asad Elixir.
- Cannot decide: try samples first. We sell 2ml samples of Asad, Asad Zanzibar, Asad Bourbon and Asad Elixir, and the Asad Set of 4 holds four 25ml bottles from the line.
The Honest View
The original Asad earned its reputation on one strong comparison, and it holds up. The flankers are better judged on character than on their designer comparisons, which are looser and, for Bourbon, muddled by version confusion. Pick the Asad that suits the season and the occasion, then let the comparison be a bonus.

Frequently asked questions
Which Asad is best?
The original is the most popular and the best starting point. Zanzibar suits warm weather, Bourbon suits people who like sweet scents, and Elixir suits winter.
Are the Asad flankers stronger versions of the original?
No. Zanzibar, Bourbon and Elixir are separate compositions with different note lists, not concentrations of one formula.
What is Asad a dupe of?
Dior Sauvage Elixir, consistently. Not Sauvage Eau de Toilette, which is a different fragrance.
What is Asad Zanzibar compared to?
Jean Paul Gaultier Le Male Le Parfum, and sometimes Le Beau. The comparison is less settled than the original Asad’s.
What is Asad Elixir compared to?
Hugo Boss Boss Bottled Absolu, not Bottled Elixir.
Which Asad is best for summer?
Asad Zanzibar. Its lavender, coconut water and salt make it the freshest of the four.
Is Asad only for men?
All four are marketed to men. Anyone who enjoys spicy, smoky or sweet-warm scents can wear them.
